Kinja'd!!!

When I bought it, the car had no wires to accept a battery. I had to make my own negative cable and wire up a positive cable as well. I also had to connect the starter wire to the whole system. With all that done I dropped in a used battery from a 1971 Plymouth and... uhhh nothing.

But I think the battery was too dead to bump the starter. I’ll charge it and try again with a full battery. But the dash lights came on and the windshield wipers worked so I believe it has a chance at cranking once the battery has some juice in it.

And it needs a name! I thought about naming it Stinger due to the Yenko link and the sheer amount of wasp nests I’ve been pulling out of this thing. Seriously it’s a rolling wasp nest this thing. What do you think?

Reggie the Legend. What? It doesn’t have to be a name that has anything to do with being a Corvair or whatever.

I like the Stinger name more, though. I think you should just name it that.

It could even use Schnappi the little Crocodile (which is a German children’s cartoon character) as a mascot/logo (though that would most likely be a reference nobody in Canada would get)

Being an airplane guy, I would play on the Corvair/Convair riff. Name it after some sort of Convair aircraft , like the Hustler.

You can’t name it Stinger. As someone who loves Corvairs, that would be like putting GT350 on your Base SN95 V6 Stang.

I vote Mullet for obvious reasons.

Something worth noting about the center mount carb setup like you have, they have a tendancy to not “heat” the carb like most engines do, so frequently people will plumb oil lines through to warm it up a bit right underneath.

Seriously - get someone who can get to Windsor and get that free rear glass. The ‘65 and ‘66 are identical: https://www.kijiji.ca/v-auto-body-parts/windsor-area-on/free-rear-window-glass-1965-corvair/1291519747?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Otherwise it’s $250 in Owen Sound.

Pretty as it was, this car’s nickname should have been “Rusty.” It had had two body jobs - one done quite well, the other the hack job of the century. Amazing it didn’t break in half. It wasn’t clear until I was taking it apart after the rear jack mount (which is also a tie point for the rear suspension) punched through, but major structure in this car was tied together with pop-riveted sheet metal.

Your oil filters are a PITA. The original one is long since out of production and the available ones that fit are the WIX 51038 or NAPA 1038 - these can run anywhere between $25-50 in Canada (seriously). Order them out of the states for $8-10 each and buy 10. I’ll see if I have one kicking around.

On the 140, run synthetic (these engines run hot). I used Amsoil. Gear lube is tricky, too. The modern stuff will trash the syncros because of the additives. There is an Amsoil product that does OK. The Corvair trans and diff share a sump.

Also- premium fuel is your friend. You don’t need any lead additive but you do want the high octane. Petro 94 if you can.

Also- the coil in your clock likely fried 30 years ago. Don’t get the quartz replacement. The original is repairable. My dad has done a bunch of them.

In fairness, the entire first run of Yenko Stingers were made from white ‘66 Corsa 140s. This is the right car.
